HSG Alumni is the official organisation of former students of the University of St.Gallen with more than 18,000 members. It emerged from the university association which was founded as early as 1931 and celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2006.

The goal of HSG Alumni is to promote the networking among former students and maintain their association with their alma mater – and thus create a benefit for the former students and the university, the students, lecturers and professors from St.Gallen.

This is implemented through:

• Friendraising: maintenance and expansion of the network of former students of the University of St.Gallen.
• Brainraising: an intensive exchange of ideas between the alumni and the university with its students, lecturers, institutes and clubs. The former students allow the university to share their practical knowledge and their experience and promote the community building at the interface between research and practice.
• Fundraising: The former students give something back to their university in return for what it has given them in their career. HSG Alumni concentrates here on projects that cannot be financed by the public sector.
  

Further goals and activities were defined at the General Meeting in June 2009. HSG's future alumni activities will continue to take the form of friendraising, brainraising and fundraising. However, an individual project should not be assigned to one of the three categories in isolation but should be regarded as an integral part. This way several activities can be combined in order to achieve a given goal.

The Management Board is organised accordingly: each Management Board member assumes responsibility for an individual project which can be allocated to a single-topic or multiple-topic cluster and serves (with a pertinent sub-goal) to meet the overriding goal. The Management Board members thus form groups as and when required and organise collaborative interfaces. The operational support provided by the Alumni Office is likewise geared to these requirements.

Only those who fulfill the membership criteria, as stated in HSG Alumni bylaws, are eligible to become members of HSG Alumni. These include, specifically, graduates of the University of St.Gallen as well as members of its faculty.

HSG Alumni erhielt im Frühjahr 2010 eine Auszeichnung als «hochprofessionelles Netzwerk». Diese Anerkennung als professionellstes Netzwerk im deutschsprachigen Raum wurde HSG Alumni im Rahmen des vom Verband alumni-clubs.net ausgelobten Alumni-Preises «Premium D-A-CH 2010» verliehen.
