The past year has demonstrated just how important it is to incorporate the issue of sustainability into the way we think and act in every area of our lives. Besides economic, social and ecological sustainability, I believe cultural sustainability is also particularly important. As a substrate of history and an encapsulation of our traditional values, our culture shapes the way we think and act and is the basis for sustainability at all levels. Let us therefore use this conference as an opportunity to work on our cultural sustainability through positive and active discussions, tolerance and esteem towards the opinions of others and through a fruitful exchange of ideas and concepts for an ecologically, economically, socially and culturally better future.

I look forward to some exciting encounters, interesting discussions and an enjoyable time spent in Montreux on the shores of Lake Geneva at the 5th International HSG Alumni Conference.
